Sohini started smoke and lime supperclubs from her tiny one bedroom flat in North London, in 2018. The intention of the supperclubs was always to build a safe space with a shared table filled with family style food that focuses on zero waste and the ethos of Bangali cooking. Highlighting the distinct dishes from the houses of matriarchs in Kolkata and taking the recipes forward in tables in her London home. Every dish comes with a story – either of the ingredients and its past, colonial influence, adaptation during times of struggle or home and after school meals as Sohini grew up in the North West in the UK.
Sohini has always wanted to focus on her creativity that has its roots in Bengal but has then spread its wings across the world as she has had the privilege to travel. Bringing in ingredients from all corners of the world, the dishes in all her supperclub menus will make you feel at home but introduce you to new flavours, aromas and creating with what is global but seasonal.
She has been featured in British Vogue, The Telegraph, Times of India and worked alongside some of the top chefs in London across the last decade.
Sohini wants to bring people together and connect them over food. Showing off that feeling of coming home, sitting comfortably and feeling that sense of ease but taking part in conversations with old and new friends, that go way beyond food. The mission is to show off no waste cooking that also shows off her personality, builds community and spreads joy in plates of rice, all in an equalising space where there is room for everyone at her table.
